I have heard that you can get a bus? Has anoyone done that? How much is it and how long does it take.

Best way is to fly to Lima and from there to Cuzco. Bus takes a very long time. I did it by car and it took me about 4 hours down the coast due south to Nazca and from there up the mountains through Pampa Galera to Abancay and from there to Cuzco ( a further 14 hours). Ormeño, one of the bus companies, says it is 24 hours that way and 26 hours if you go through Arequipa and Cuzco.
The Inca Trail is nice but it is crowded. You now have to use a registered guide (can’t go by yourself anymore). Regular no thrills tour goes for about US$350 per head.

I’m enclosing a web page of Ormeño bus company and a web page of an Inca Trail tour operator.

In the similar question the favorite answer is that Lima is safe. This answer is untrue. Why?

If you are not native to Peru you are a target. There are certain nationalities such as American that give off dollars signs to people in Peru. If you are poor here in the USA and can afford the flight to Peru, you are rich down there.

It states to check tourist sites for safety information. Again this is untrue. Tourist sites want to get your money and paint a pretty picture. They are not a reliable source for crime info.

Do a search on the internet and look for USA government or government associated agencies on dangers, alerts and tips on safety.

The post also said, to avoid bad areas. Lima is depressed by USA standards. The moment you walk out of Lima airport with the unfinished homes in view you will think you are in some of the worst areas of the USA. My point is looks are deceiving. I love Lima airport area and the surrounding area. But, as an American your a target. So is some other European nationalities whose reputation for wealth is better then Peru.

The safest way to travel to Peru is to know someone there or who used to live there. They can better direct you to avoid better areas. You as a citizen of the first world country will not know one depressed looking area from another. Once you get over the difference of what we consider depressed and what is not depressed there you can better judge by site what is a better area.

Miraflores, is rampant for crime for tourists. It is known tourists with money will be visiting there. So, it may be safe for a South American but for YOU, it is not.

It is just like NYC in the sense that if you walk NYC like you know the joint, and keep your wallet and money out of sight your safer then if you act like a tourist.
s/b avoid unsafe areas.

So, what is your question?
