What is the best and cheapest way to call Peru from USA? How much does it cost?

What is the best and cheapest way to call Peru from USA? How much does it cost?

If both parties sign up for a Skype account and have access to a computer, then you can call/video call for free. The person in Peru can go to an internet cafe and rent time on a computer for a few nuevo soles. Just go to skype.com and click "Get Skype". Several of the cafes in Peru already have Skype installed on their computers because of how many tourists there are in the area. There are also some phone calling centers where you can have the person in Peru call you, but this is more expensive. Both of these options require both people to set a date and time to talk or else they will not work. The person in Peru can also buy an international cell phone, but this is much more expensive. The great part about having the phone, however, is that you can make and receive calls at anytime. I hope this was of some help!

What are the seasons like for Peru below the equator? how are they different from the US?

Posted on July 6th, 2010 by admin

what are the seasons like for Peru below the equator?

Peru as many countries in between the tropics doesn’t have the 4 distinctive seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall.

Instead you might say that there are 2 distinctive seasons (December-March) & (June-September) and in-between them a short transition period thet we call Mid Season (media estacion). Now depending in which geographic region you live: Coast, Mountain or Jungle, you call it differently:
COAST: Summer (Dec-Mar) Winter (Jun-Sep)
MOUNTAIN: Rainy (Dec-Mar) Dry (Jun-Sep)
JUNGLE: Flood (Dec-Mar) Dry (Jun-Sep)

As you can see, the best weather in the Jungle and mountain is during our winter but it would be wrong to call it summer so the correct term would be "Dry Season".

Of course we have Autum seasons and Spring sales in shopping centers, but it doesn’t apply to the weather. It’s used as a cronological terminology.

Machu Picchu is high in the Andes Mountains of Peru, and Peru is one of South America’s most magnificent and authentic countries. Machu Picchu was once a royal palace built by an Incan ruler. Machu Picchu sits like a mysterious city eight thousand feet above the sea. Peru’s most famous site, Machu Picchu, is more than Peru’s. Machu Picchu is one of the wonders of the world with its two hundred buildings and cloud covered beauty. About twelve hundred people lived in Machu Picchu, and Peru has done an exceptional job of preserving Machu Picchu. Professional Inca architects built Machu Picchu with granite blocks and bronze tools. The Inca architects at Machu Picchu were so advanced that the thinnest of knife blades can’t be forced between the stones. Travelers to Peru, to Machu Picchu climb the steep Inca trail to Machu Picchu. But there is a tourist bus from the town of Aguas Calientes. If you climb Machu Picchu in Peru by foot, don’t forget to stretch when you reach the bottom, Your legs will thank you the next morning. Arrive at Machu Picchu before dawn and don’t be disappointed by the fog. The ruins and surrounding peaks reveal themselves as the fog lifts, and steal your breath away. Peru’s Machu Picchu was discovered in 1911. Machu Picchu is an authentic travel experience

How well do people in Peru understand English in general?

Posted on July 3rd, 2010 by admin

I guess asking this question another way is: I do not speak Spanish. How easy will it be to communicate with people in Peru using English only?

Thank you.

yes, it would be best to try to learn at least basic spanish before coming here. it depends on what part of peru you are in, in tourist areas, some people speak english in restraunts and stores, but even they are almost never know more than basic english. you will probably be able to find people who speak both and would be willing to help you, but it is still best to learn at least some spanish before you come.

Does the city of Caral, Peru really discount the warfare theory of the origin of civilization?

Posted on June 30th, 2010 by admin

Now recognised as among the oldest cities ever Cara;. Peru was apparently an agriculture/ trade capital and is being used to discount the warfare reason for civilization building.

While I fully agree that trade is likely a common cause of civilization building, I think warfare, religion, and agriculture. All act in concert.

Some cultures like minoans depended on thier navies and technological advantage and didnt need fortifications.

I agree. There is NO single cause for anything in this world.
